Spintop™ Density Separators

The SPINTOP™ Density Separator generates a single vortex that will permit light precise phase and or particle separation. High separation efficiency is accomplished in separating oil and water. In addition to oil/water separation, low gravity particulates, lighter than water, can be separated from a slurry. The SPINTOP™ Density Separator, unlike conventional hydrocyclones, is unidirectional in design. The light density phase and the heavy density phase both report out at the opposite end from the feed inlet. The unidirectional design with a single vortex permits the separated fractions to report out their designated outlet without “short-circuiting”, leakage and particle size intermingling.

Under pressurized conditions, the slurry enters circumferentially into the cylinder section of the Separator. If the feed pressure is sufficient, the rotational momentum is converted into a strong centrifugal force and the slurry constituents will began establishing streamlines according to their mass and density.
The solids will radially move outwardly to the wall of the Separator and the transporting liquids (water and oil) if oil is present, will radially move inwardly to the longitudinal axis. The “boundary layer effect” will cause the solids to move down
the wall of the Separator and exit circumferentially. The liquids and suspended particles lighter than water will rotate around the air core and exit axially through the apex tube.

  The "Slurry Process Illustration above" shows one example of how Density Separators are used in the Oil and Gas Industry to remove oil from drilling mud or drill cuttings.
