Vortex Ventures Inc. provides numerous products that have multiple applications in the Oil and Gas Industry. In the mixing of Drilling Fluids, polymers, HEC, and gels the LOBESTAR® Shear Mixer has become an Industry standard by providing the most efficient and effective method of blending, mixing, and shearing with a single unit. The dust generated while mixing drilling fluid products in the mud room offshore and at the mud mixing area on land based rigs is eliminated with the DUAL SUCTION LOBESTAR® Shear Mixer. The DUST CONTAINMENT V-SLIDE ASSEMBLY provides a hermetic seal between the SPINTOP™ SURGE TANK (teardrop) and the LOBESTAR® Shear Mixer. Bulk Bentonite and Barite can be speed mixed at a regulated rate in a "Dust-Free" environment.

SUSPENDING AND MIXING DRILLING FLUIDS IN TANKS FOR UNIFORM CONSISTENCY

Suspending barite and mixing drilling fluids for uniform consistency in mud tanks is essential in optimizing product quality. The RADIAL EDUCTOR™ generates strong turbulence in a submerged environment that provides the energy distribution to keep tanks uniformly mixed and solids suspended without moving parts. The RADIAL EDUCTOR™ is a high volume eductor using the Lobestar power jet to produce high turbulence. A centrifugal pump is used to pressurize the RADIAL EDUCTOR™. Static pressure is converted to high velocity as the slurry passes through the jet nozzle orifice. The surrounding fluid in the tank is draw into the mixing chamber through the inductor ports. For every 100 gallons per minute pumped through a Radial Eductor, 400 gallons is mixed and is circulated back into the tank. Rapid volume turnover is achieved producing a mixed uniform flow stream. The issuing flow stream velocity is greater than the settling rate of Barite. The issuing fluid plume keeps the tank corners and floor free of sediment.

WHEN REVIEWING THE MUD MIXING EQUIPMENT IN THE OIL INDUSTRY PRODUCT GUIDE BELOW, ALSO NOTE THAT WE OFFER SEPARATION EQUIPMENT SUCH AS HYDROCYCLONES (below).

The industry is constantly looking for improvements in the separation of solids and liquids. The Vortex Ventures SPINTOP™ HYDROCYCLONE provides innovations to an old technology that improves efficiency by conserving imparted energy in its Hydrocyclone design. Hydrocyclones are density separators that convert pressure energy into rotational momentum. The rotational momentum provides the centrifugal force to separate solids from a primary liquid. Separation efficiency is determined by the Hydrocyclone geometrical parameters. The interaction between the parameters dictate the Hydrocyclone efficiency. It is essential that the geometry of each internal component is designed to promote a smooth transition in maintaining laminar flow. The SPINTOP™ HYDROCYCLONE has four outstanding features that are unique in comparison with conventional Hydrocyclones. (1) Involuted feed, (2) a Bell shaped Vortex Finder, (3) a Solid Center Core, and (4) a Parabolic shaped body.

Lobestar® Mixing Nozzles
Product Icon and Link to Lobestar Mixing Nozzles Effective blending and mixing are an essential part of everyday operations in most process industries. In these applications the requirement may vary but the ultimate achievement is, generally, to have a homogenous product. The Vortex Mixing Nozzle is effective in performing more than one function with superb capability; suspending solids in a liquid, blending, emulsifying liquids, dissolving polymers, powders and granular materials in a liquid environment...
Lobestar® Mixing Eductors
Product Icon and Link to Lobestar Mixing Eductors The term "Eductor" describes a jet pump without moving parts and utilizes fluid in motion to produce low pressure. Motive power is provided by a centrifugal or gear pump. The pressurized fluid stream is converted from pressure-energy to high velocity as the fluid enters a unique nozzle configuration, known as the LOBESTAR® NOZZLE. The issuing high velocity jet stream produces a strong suction in the mixing chamber of the LOBESTAR® MIXING EDUCTOR, causing a powder, granular material or a secondary fluid to be drawn through a suction port into the mixing chamber of the LOBESTAR® MIXING EDUCTOR...
Radial Eductor™ (Tank Eductors)
Product Icon and Link to Radial Eductor Product Page The Radial Eductor is a high volume EDUCTOR using the LOBESTAR® power jet to produce high turbulence. A centrifugal pump is used to pressurize the Radial Eductor. Static pressure is converted to high velocity as the slurry passes through the jet nozzle orifice. The high velocity causes a region of low pressure. The motive flow pumped through the jet nozzle draws in three times the volume pumped. Example: The flow rate of an RE-2 (2") Model has a 7/8" nozzle orifice is 116 gpm @ 40 psi. The total mixed fluid is 464 gpm. The motive flow rate of the jet nozzle draws three times it’s volume through the inductors. This interaction prevents solids from settling at the bottom and the corners of the tank...
Lobestar® Shear Mixers
Product Icon and Link to Shear Mixer Product Page The LOBESTAR® Shear Mixer is a combination of two major components that are essential in providing rapid hydration, uniform dispersion and fast delivery. The two components that make up the LOBESTAR® Shear Mixer are; the RADIAL PREMIXER and the LOBESTAR® MIXING EDUCTOR. This combination of devices produce turbulent mixing and dynamic shear. The results are rapid hydration, uniform dispersion and fast delivery.
Lobestar® Shear Mixers (Dual Suction)
Product Icon and Link to Dual Suction Shear Mixer Product Page Many mixing and blending processes require a dual suction device. The Dual Suction LOBESTAR® Shear Mixer efficiently meets the demanding requirements for getting the most potential from a chemical product. The LOBESTAR® Shear Mixer is a combination of two major components that are essential in providing rapid hydration, uniform dispersion and fast delivery, the RADIAL PREMIXER and the LOBESTAR® MIXING EDUCTOR.
Radial Premixer (Annular Jet Pumps)
Product Icon and Link to Radial Premixer Product Page Pressurized fluid enters the prewetting chamber of the RADIAL PREMIXER tangentially and radiates outwardly to the wall of the mixing chamber. Powdered materials are introduced through a chemical hopper and are drawn into the eye of a strong vortex. As the particles are absorbed into the spinning fluid, the centrifugal force moves the mixture outward providing distance between particles as the “wetting-out” process develops. The particle spreading caused by the centrifugal action completely eliminates particle adhesion or clumping associated with conventional mixing devices...
Dust-Free Bulk-Bag Handling System
Product Icon and Link to Dust Free Bulk Bag Handling System Page The Dust-Free Bulk-Bag Handling System meets the requirements for getting the most product potential in a dust-free environment. A simple and effective method to completely eliminate dust and remove the health risk associated with drilling fluid additive in a confined enclosure. Bulk-Bags are used to reduce space, handling and the elimination of wooden pallets and paper bags...
Speed Mixer (Dust-Free Speed Mixing For Drilling Fluids Management)
Product Icon and Link to Dust Free Speed Mixing Product Page Dust generated while mixing drilling fluid products in drilling rig mud rooms can be prevented with the DUAL SUCTION LOBESTAR® Shear Mixer.
