Efficient and effective blending, mixing, and solids separation are an essential part of everyday operations within the Mining Industry. Vortex Ventures Inc. provides numerous products that have multiple applications within this Industry. In these applications the requirement may vary but the ultimate achievement is to have a homogenous product. The mixing of powders, granules or secondary liquids with the LOBESTAR® MIXING EDUCTOR can provide the most efficient and effective method of blending, mixing, and shearing with a single unit.

The heart of the LOBESTAR® MIXING EDUCTOR is the LOBESTAR® NOZZLE with its unique internal geometry that generates an axial and radial flow stream. These two distinctive flow patterns produce dynamic turbulence in the mixing chamber of the LOBESTAR® MIXING EDUCTOR. The dynamic turbulence provides tremendous interfacial contact between the two flow patterns resulting in rapid particle wetting and product hydration. The term "Eductor" describes a jet pump without moving parts and utilizes fluid motion to produce low pressure. Motive power is provided by a centrifugal or gear pump. The pressurized fluid stream is converted from pressure energy to high velocity as the fluid enters the unique nozzle configuration of the LOBESTAR® NOZZLE.

The issuing high velocity jet stream produces a strong suction in the mixing chamber of the LOBESTAR® MIXING EDUCTOR, causing a powder, granular material or a secondary fluid to be drawn through a suction port into the mixing chamber of the LOBESTAR® MIXING EDUCTOR. An exchange of momentum occurs when the powder intersects with the motive fluid. The dynamic turbulence between the two components produces a uniformly mixed stream traveling at a velocity intermediate between the motive and suction velocities through a constant diameter throat where mixing is completed. The diffuser is shaped to reduce the velocity gradually and convert velocity energy back to pressure at the discharge with a minimum loss of energy.

Mixing and suspending solids with the RADIAL EDUCTOR can provide product uniformity. The benefits are significant in slurry mixing to produce a homogeneous fluid without loss of material through solids settling to the tank floor. Uniform consistency, and rapid volume turnover in mixing and storage tanks is essential in optimizing product quality, and in some applications, restoring sediments from tank bottoms.

Radial Eductor Illustration The RADIAL EDUCTOR is a high volume mixing device that employs a LOBESTAR® POWER NOZZLE to produce a strong turbulent pattern of mixing. The Radial Eductors are strategically positioned in tanks to provide full tank coverage. The issuing plumes from the diffuser section of the Radial Eductors generate a spreading, high velocity pattern that is greater than the settling rate of the solids.

The benefits are numerous: Uniform product rheology, stable emulsions, no loss of product, elimination of settling, reduced tank cleaning and waste disposal.

The RADIAL EDUCTOR generates strong turbulence in a submerged environment that provides the energy distribution to keep tanks uniformly mixed and solids suspended without moving parts. The horse power ratio to mixed volume is extremely efficient.

In operation, a pressurized fluid from a centrifugal pump enters a converging nozzle in the RADIAL EDUCTOR converting the pressure-energy into a high velocity jet stream. The high velocity jet stream causes a low pressure region that draws the surrounding drilling fluid into the mixing chamber of the Eductor, discharging a uniform mixture that is three times the motive feed rate.

SEPARATION OF SOLIDS AND LIQUIDS USING THE VORTEX SPINTOP™ HYDROCYCLONE
                                Exploded View of Spintop Hydrocyclone
The industry is constantly looking for improvements in the separation of solids and liquids. The Vortex Ventures SPINTOP™ HYDROCYCLONE provides innovations to an old technology that improves efficiency by conserving imparted energy in its Hydrocyclone design. Hydrocyclones are density separators that convert pressure energy into rotational momentum. The rotational momentum provides the centrifugal force to separate solids from a primary liquid. Separation efficiency is determined by the Hydrocyclone geometrical parameters. The interaction between the parameters dictate the Hydrocyclone efficiency. It is essential that the geometry of each internal component is designed to promote a smooth transition in maintaining laminar flow. The SPINTOP™ HYDROCYCLONE has four outstanding features that are unique in comparison with conventional Hydrocyclones. (1) Involuted feed, (2) a Bell shaped Vortex Finder, (3) a Solid Center Core, and (4) a Parabolic shaped body.

Lobestar® Mixing Nozzles
Product Icon and Link to Lobestar Mixing Nozzles Effective blending and mixing are an essential part of everyday operations in most process industries. In these applications the requirement may vary but the ultimate achievement is, generally, to have a homogenous product. The Vortex Mixing Nozzle is effective in performing more than one function with superb capability; suspending solids in a liquid, blending, emulsifying liquids, dissolving polymers, powders and granular materials in a liquid environment...
Lobestar® Mixing Eductors
Product Icon and Link to Lobestar Mixing Eductors The term "Eductor" describes a jet pump without moving parts and utilizes fluid in motion to produce low pressure. Motive power is provided by a centrifugal or gear pump. The pressurized fluid stream is converted from pressure-energy to high velocity as the fluid enters a unique nozzle configuration, known as the LOBESTAR® NOZZLE. The issuing high velocity jet stream produces a strong suction in the mixing chamber of the LOBESTAR® MIXING EDUCTOR, causing a powder, granular material or a secondary fluid to be drawn through a suction port into the mixing chamber of the LOBESTAR® MIXING EDUCTOR...
Radial Eductor™ (Tank Eductors)
Product Icon and Link to Radial Eductor Product Page The Radial Eductor is a high volume EDUCTOR using the LOBESTAR® power jet to produce high turbulence. A centrifugal pump is used to pressurize the Radial Eductor. Static pressure is converted to high velocity as the slurry passes through the jet nozzle orifice. The high velocity causes a region of low pressure. The motive flow pumped through the jet nozzle draws in three times the volume pumped. Example: The flow rate of an RE-2 (2") Model has a 7/8" nozzle orifice is 116 gpm @ 40 psi. The total mixed fluid is 464 gpm. The motive flow rate of the jet nozzle draws three times it’s volume through the inductors. This interaction prevents solids from settling at the bottom and the corners of the tank...
